LightnerGroup Web 5.0

Over a decade ago, Lightner Property Group launched its first web site. It had no more than about 8-10 pages and on every page we had placed distracting bouncing clip art - not because it added to the site, but because we could.  In those days, we were all just thrilled to be able to make things appear or move!  In retrospect, it looked more like the work of a grade school child than of a professional service firm.  Today we launch what is the 5thgeneration of the LightnerGroup site. We have all come a long way since those early days.

This 5.0 generation of the web site includes a host of new features.  Our Internet visitors can now register for the site to gain access to features not available to unregistered guests.  We have integretated 7x24 site registration.  Our residents can log in to obtain specialized information just for them.  We have an integrated secure portal for our clients to log into their personalized Central Desktop sites.  We host video, as well as news feeds on real estate and property management.  We have video of our own properties, as well as virtual tours of available units for rent.  You can download an application and pay for the application fee on line.  We provide Walk Scores, reviews, and neighborhood information.

Need directions?  You can get them.  Need information about our lease breaking policies or utility hookup? We have you covered.  Interested in knowing about the Lightner Property Group property management fee structure?  It’s here.  Need a building fax number.  Easy to find.

We are also adding an entirely new feature – the company Blog. Bill Lightner, Art Swanson and I will share with you our thoughts about the past-present-and future of property management, real estate investments, along with maintenance tips and insights into the best practices for property management in this changing and complicated real estate environment.  If you own or manage San Francisco investment property, you won’t want to miss this.

The final new feature of this site is the way it is designed to engage and interact with our customer base.  Lightner Property Group is active and available on Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn and GetSatisfaction.  We are poised and excited about the chance to have conversations with our entire customer base, including our residents, tenants, clients and investors.  Ready to discuss whatever they are interested in or concerned about.

So whether you are a current resident or thinking about becoming a resident, or you are a property owner thinking about securing property management or another property management company interested in sharing ideas,  we invite you to join us in a personalized, somewhat private - somewhat public - conversation on the Internet.

We look forward to expanding our Friends, Fans, Followers and Clients.  We are excited and look forward to hearing from each of you as we share thoughts, explore ideas and expand our knowledge while we journey down this new road together.

Kindle - the NEW and BEST way to read!

5 Lightner Lights!

If you read for business or pleasure, a Kindle should be on your purchase list for this year.  While undoubtedly there will be improvements, my goodness they already have three generations of the Kindle, the product is so good and so beneficial there is no reason to wait.  If you wait, you will miss out on the hours of enjoyment you would have gotten during your use of the device.

How do you decide WHICH Kindle to purchase.  Actually, it is pretty easy.  If you are purchasing for a business use and you want to be able to use the Kindle to read PDF’s (for example you are an attorney who wants to read a PDF deposition), then the best choice is the DX.  If you are purchasing for reading pleasure and you want a device that is close to the size of a paperback, then the Kindle 2 may be your best bet.

What are the major differences?  Size.  The DX has more real estate for reading, but it is also larger and heavier.  The DX has more capacity - up to 3500 books or so they say.  Downsides?  The DX has the controls only on the right-hand side.  For lefties, like me, that’s a drag.  The Kindle 2 is easy to hold and control due to its size, which is just about perfect.   Not sure about the larger DX.

I have the DX on order because I use my Kindle for deposition reading.  I will report back on the loss of the left side controls.

Overall, this is a great device.  You can read anywhere. You can take thousands of pages in your purse.  You can have the works of great modern newspaper writers delivered to you daily.  And you can actually work the task of reading them into your day, because they can always be with you in your bag or purse.

So if you are the kind of person who will grab 15 minutes to read whenever given the opportunity, this device is well worth the price!
